I vividly remember when someone, whose name I can recall
but won't use, put red chalk on the teacher's chair, and as they too wore white
shorts, it had a spectacular effect! He didn't seem amused though.
I
remember the riots and being under curfew, and how handy the back lane was for
visiting friends up the road. The vege man, Mr Poon, the bread man, the book man,
and the cows and goats in the streets. The smells! The first visit was the one
that left the most indelible memories.
I returned to Penang in 1974 and
used to help with the swimming club on Penang, and can remember many many kids
from that time. I also went back, 1978 to 1980.
I can remember Narelle Anderson was my best friend throughout 1967, until she moved from Loh Poh Heng to Butterworth. We still saw each other but it wasn't the same.
I can remember playing with Debbie Pope, and almost missing her birthday party cause I was playing with Narelle. Christine Brown lived next door, the twins Lisa and Michelle Rowe across the road. The Sam girls where across the road and 1 door down. I recall many names of kids in my classes, but sadly not many are on the site. Sally Fisher is, she used to play the fife.
For
all the travelling around Australia I have done, only twice have I met someone
that attended RAAF school, at the same time as me, but in other classes. This
site is just what us RAAF brats need.
I am currently working in Mount
Isa, as a nurse in an Aboriginal Health Centre.
