The first time I lived in Penang I was about 2 y.o.
& I was 4 1/2 y.o.,when we left. So my memories are few. I've seen heaps
of photos, one we're at the Monkey Gardens & I'm eating the peanuts, my
most vivid memory is of the reclining Buddha in a temple close to Georgetown.
Also my Brother Adrian was born while we were there
Our 2nd trip; We arrived mid-Sept.'70,stayed with our friends,the Hite(Sandra
& Neville + Andrew, Randall arrive later).Jalan Palani was our 1st address,about
12 months later we moved to 75i Vale of tempe Road just beside the school,
you could see our house from the corner of school oval.I know I did a lot
of things,Movies at the Hostel,dinner, get-togethers, JABS, Malaria tablets.I
did Ballet& Jazz ballet with a lady whose house wasn't far from the Chinese
Swimming Pool, we did some Concerts at the Hostel. My Brother & I enjoyed
the chinese swimming pool because it was quite there when we went & and
we had fun mucking about & we played Billiards,& Soccer with those
old fangled lined-up soccer players.
I remember Grape Fanta icy cold, Coca cola with vanilla ice-cream mixed in.
The Amahs, R.C. & Mary(6' chinese woman).
The creek, Adrian &
I wandered down fishing for Guppies to feed to our Gold fish.The Aquarium ,the
Beaches, the Eden Restaurant(Christmas dinner there).
All that freedom we
had & all the worry our parents had about the dangers there & diseases.
I remember many faces,a few names & these white uniforms (ah).
2003 find me married (20 yrs.this Sept.) to a retired Policeman,ex-RAAF ADG. We
have 3 children 2 girls 18,16 & a boy 13. We live 45 minutes out of the Ipswich
area.
