What is it about that period of our lives that makes us cling on to it like no other?

I have to say the experience clouded my judgement though. I have had some great experiences in my life, but joining the RAAF on leaving Penang for last time was not one of them. Thankfully for us both, the RAAF and I parted company an interminable 6 years later.

I don't have the graphic memories of Penang or the school so many others and yet regularly think about those days. I will just adopt some of the more graphic recollections on this site as my own.

I know from puberty to senility was a quick leap for me, but I do seem to recall numerous experiences that don't appear to have been revealed. Perhaps they have been left out in good taste. Perhaps it was the nature of the crowd I fell in with.

For some reason the characters seemed larger than life at the time and thankfully some of them have remained so - great to hear recently that Barney McMahon received that long awaited life saving news and now is showing signs of developing into that old curmudgeon he showed us glimpses of in our teens.

I have been lucky enough to have been in touch with some of you over the years, but I have always tended to move on and so I lose touch just as quickly. It would be great to re-acquaint ourselves again.

It was a shock to find out I was unknowingly living all but next to door to Vince Browning for years and only found that out as I was leaving the State.
