1973-1974
Grade 3G, 4G
I
lived at 1003 Robina Park, Butterworth during 1973 and 1974. My father was actually
in the Army (not the RAAF). He was a major in Army Aviation and was the liaison
officer between the Army and the RAAF (I think that was his job).
My
main claim to fame is that in 1974 (I think) the then Prime Minister and his wife, Mr Gough Whitlam and Mrs Margaret Whitlam visited the RAAF base. Mrs Whitlam
came to visit our house and I played the organ for her!!!
The friendsI remember are Vicki Heniz and Karen Gunn. Vicki's family were
allowed to swallow their weekly malaria tablets with coke - we had to swallow
ours with water! I was a member of the Dolphin Swimming Club (as most others were)
and I have several swimming medals and trophies from those two years. I also remember
a significant event in the pool - one day I swam a race against a Year 10 girl
and beat her. She was the daughter of the Commanding Officer of the RAAF - Air
Commodore P.F. Raw.
When we returned to Australia in 1975 we lived in
Canberra. Dad retired in 1975. After I finished Year 12 at Hawker College, I joined
the Public Service and worked for the Army. After 5 years of that I worked for
the Attorney General's Department. I moved to Queensland in 1991 and I now live
on the Sunshine Coast and have been working for a Private Christian School for
the past 10 years as the Registrar.
I have had a great time reading this
web site and hope to see updates from people in the future.
