My brother Peter and I started off in the old school, McAlister Rd I think someone else has mentioned. In fact I went to the RAF school on Butterworth for a few months after we first arrived but apparently they couldn't handle me so I was sent to the RAAF school.
We used to travel by bus across to the Island each day, and initially we used to get off the bus at the ferry and catch another one on the Island - I feel sorry for those bus monitors having to keep control of all those kids loose on the ferry. Eventually the buses went across on the ferry so we couldn't escape.
I can't remember many students in my classes but I remember Mrs Cowman and Mr Hunt and getting the strap from Mr McLaughlin. They were great days ( I think ) and I have had the privilege of two postings there since with the RAAF, as did my brother.
