RAAF SCHOOL
1962-1988
Jalan Azyze, Hillside, Penang
The RAAF School was opened on 9 May 1962 and served the school age dependants of RAAF personnel based at Butterworth, until withdrawal of the bulk of the forces in 1988.

THE ANNEXE
1967-1983
Jln Chengai (off Jalan Gajah), Tanjong Tokong, Penang
The Annexe was acquired in 1967. Infant classes were held both at the Annexe school, located on Jln Chengai (off Jalan Gajah) and also the main school attap huts. In 1968 there were thirteen classes (approx. 400 pupils - and increasing), with six at the annexe and seven at the main school.

In 1970 extensions were completed at the annexe. The school was officially opened on 2nd July 1970 by Senator Drake-Brockman, Minister for Air. Now all infants were able to be together at the one location.

THE RAAF CLUB (HOSTEL)
1967-1988
10 Tanjong Tokong Road, Tanjong Tokong, Penang
The RAAF Club (or RAAF Centre) came into being in January 1962 when the RAAF assumed responsibility for the facility from the Australian Army who had previously taken it over from the British Army.

Originally the centre operated as a hostel, primarily for newly arrived families awaiting housing but later became the central focus for much of the social and sporting life of RAAF families during their stay in Malaysia.

THOSE SCHOOL DAYS
1960-1987
A large album containing selected photographs from the Austral Magazines from 1960-1987.

Contributed Photo Albums

Thank you to everyone who has sent in their photographs! I thought it a good idea when you send in more than just one or two, to put them into separate albums.

All contributions are welcome. When you send in your photos, it is good to identify each image by naming it appropriately. You can send them by email or pop them on a disk and post to PO Box 2053, Lower Sandy Bay, Tasmania 7005.

Some of the larger albums will take a little time to download, so please be patient.

I've had a wonderful life, and if I had to answer the question ....
"If we could have it all again, would we - could we?"
I can honestly say, 'Yes'.
